Bridges

A bridge is a custom made device anchored to neighboring natural teeth and replaces one or more missing teeth.  When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared as crowns to hold the bridge in place.  Bridges look natural and fill the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Fixed bridges appear and function similar to natural teeth and remain in the mouth at all times.

What to Expect During Treatment

Usually two appointments are needed to complete your bridgework.  During your first appointment, x-rays will be taken and supporting teeth will be prepped for crowns.  Once prep work is complete, impressions will be taken for the laboratory to use as a model to create your bridge.  We will then protect your teeth with a temporary crown until your next visit when your permanent bridge from the lab is delivered.  At this time, your dentist will take time to check your bite for accuracy and that the bridge comforms to surrounding tissue.
